Pangaea 50
Sister-ship to the JeanMarc 50, Pangaea 50 is the second design we did in Origami. The first using 3D graphics, which allowed us to rotate and view the boats in 3D before any cutting or welding was done.
Most of the design was done using the traditional Skene’s Elements, 10 station approach to building lines drawing of the proposed boat. Once the design rules were satisfied, an origami 3D projection was fitted to the wireframe and the patterns generated.
The patterns were then printed on paper to provide the study patterns below.
These study patterns were taped together to ensure they built an origami hull without defects. Any small error at this point would be magnified when working on full scale with metal. Once the study patterns were proven, the drawings were dimensioned to provide the construction patterns (below).
Fold your own Pangaea 50. Use these dimensioned patterns to build your own Pangaea 50 using the Origami Method. These are the original construction patterns used to build the Pangaea 50. Purchase is by donation.
The construction patterns were used to assemble and cut the sheets of alloy to build the hull and deck. The machinery, rigging, and interior were added to complete the boat as shown below.
